Previous mill/industrial experience will be a definite asset.

A Level III First Aid certificate will also be beneficial.

Position: PRODUCTION SUPERVISOR

Reports To: PRODUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

Location: SAVONA

General Description

Reporting to the Production Superintendent, the production supervisor directly supervises a production crew of up to eighty hourly employees to ensure maximum recovery of raw materials into established quality veneer standards in a safe and efficient manner.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Ensures that safe work instruction and procedures are followed, safety policies are adhered to, and reports all unsafe conditions, including documenting Safe Work Verification slips on a daily basis.
  2. Reviews first aid book daily, signs each entry and follows up with injured employees.
  3. Conducts monthly crew safety meetings and participates in monthly site safety meetings including necessary follow-up.
  4. Conducts accident investigations and assists with documentation and record keeping related to safety and W.C.B. matters as required.
  5. Conducts required performance management checks in the Plywood plant and necessary action planning follow-up to achieve targeted results.
  6. Ensures weekly KPI graphs posted and communicated to provide “clear expectations” to crews for maximum results.
  7. Monitors production machinery, processes, procedures and ensures appropriate documentation is accurate and complete.
  8. Communicates clearly and effectively with maintenance department to ensure all equipment working to maximum potential.
  9. Ensures shift shipping and tallies both accurate and complete.
  10. Monitors employee’s performance including safety, competency, training and attendance, working within guidelines to rectify any deficiencies.
  11. Ensures veneer plant cost control by working within established budgets.
  12. Ensures various shift reports are accurate and complete.
  13. Maintains accurately personal records – crew lists, time keeping, job postings, warning slips, etc.
  14. Represents the company at first and second stage union grievance meetings and other labor relation matters as required.
  15. All other duties as required

Position: QUALITY CONTROL MANAGER

Reports To: TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Location: SAVONA

General Description

The Quality Control Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining and reporting process and quality control data in all aspects of panel production. Assists in process improvement projects to ensure products meet or exceed mill standards and customer expectations while optimizing the manufacturing process.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. Quality and Process System Management
    • Ensures that all aspects of the QMS system are properly implemented with appropriate feedback to management.
    • Ensures production of CE trademarked panels meet the specified requirements with all required quality assurance checks being properly documented.
    • Responsible for daily process/quality review with production personnel, submitting reports as required to the Technical Director.
      Compiles monthly quality/process control reports.
      Recommends and assists in resolving specific quality/process control issues.
    • Controls all aspects of panel trademark supplies and inventories.
  1. Resin Inventory Control
    • Monitors all aspects of plywood glue mixing ingredients and procedures.
    • Coordinates orders and deliveries of resins, extenders, flour and soda ash.
    • Ensures proper glue room mix and consumption reports are kept updated.
    • Develops monthly glue consumption reports.
    • Coordinates Quality/Technical department efforts with all departments to meet project schedules.
    • Analyze quality resource requirements, establish or adjust work procedures and/or resource schedules in order to meet project objectives and schedules.
    • Coordinate the lab operations to ensure timely and accurate development of technical data in product/process validation testing.
  1. Product and Lab Testing
    • Ensures that safe work procedures are use in all laboratory activities.
    • Participates in specific areas of product development as required.
    • Performs overlay performance analysis with reports to management as required.
    • Responsible for panel bond testing.
  1. Personnel and Training
    • Assists production supervisors in identifying and developing educational programs (formal and informal) related to continuous improvement of quality systems throughout the plant.
    • Keeps up with the latest technical developments and changes in the industry.
    • Liaises with the production staff on the latest developments.
  1. All other duties as required.

  • Post secondary education, 6+ years related industry experience

We are currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the following role in our Savona Division.

Site Manager

You are a proven and hands on leader managing a woods manufacturing facility preferably in a Plywood setting. You have experience in managing in a union setting. The Savona Division Site Manager administers all activities at the Company’s Plywood Operation within the guidelines of company policies. The site manager has responsibility for the safe operation of the plant and to achieve budgeted operational and financial metrics – including production forecasting, log quality, production, product quality, plant maintenance, and administration of personnel.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Directs activities of all Savona Staff in conjunction with Division Manager. Provides direction and support to operations supervisors, conferring with customers, consultants, contractors or suppliers.
  • Provides leadership and direction for division safety programs, attends safety meetings, participates in the development of safety standards and accountable for site safety performance, fostering a safe work attitude among employees on site. Promote and provide a safe workplace and seek improvements on the operations of the facility.
  • Administers production schedules – taking into account the available inventory and the needs of the Savona plywood plant.
  • Administers and coordinates the activities of the operation to maintain production targets, quality and supply of Plywood and Co-products.
  • Ensure that all operations including contractors, adhere to the Provincial and Municipal Laws and Regulations.
  • Maintains good communication with Woodlands group, Savona plywood production team, Lillooet production team, the Plywood Sales group, and other divisional personnel as required to ensure that business objectives are achieved. Report and explain deviations from planned activities and production forecasts.
  • Prepare, control and administer operational budgets including expenses and inventory.
  • Analyze and review costs on a monthly basis, as well as control expenditures on supplies, repairs and maintenance according to budget
  • Approve and control all purchase orders and expenditures
  • Obtains approval for material expenditures or contractual agreements prior to committing the Company
  • Establish, implement and monitor an effective preventative maintenance program and assist and co-ordinate capital projects and in conjunction with other Company resources and personnel.
  • Ensure high product quality at all times – including veneer roughness, thickness control, appearance, and packaging
  • Review organization and staffing plans with production and maintenance personnel to ensure they are adequate to attain divisional and Company objectives
  • Implement Collective Agreement with the USW, including the activities of the union plant committees, and addressing grievances, etc
  • Work with the sales team to ensure customer satisfaction with all products
  • Work with product development personnel to assist with the diversification of panel product lines
  • Assist with the development of a log forecast and consistent with the divisional strategy to meet Company business objectives
  • Ensure that purchased veneer logs meet quality specifications that enable the Company to meet its business objectives

JOURNEYMAN MILLWRIGHT 

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the certified Journeyman Millwright will have five to ten years of experience in an industrial setting preferably in the veneer or plywood industry and experience with presses, dryers, hydraulics and compressors.  Experience or other trades certification such as welder or fabricator would be an asset.

The successful candidate will have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills to effectively participate in a team environment.  Demonstrated safe work habits are essential. Shift work is required subject to the production/maintenance requirements of the operation. A valid BC Driver’s license and reliable transportation is also required.
